What is "Bon-Odori"? |
|
"Bon-Odori" is a Japanese traditional summer dance festival. Bon-odori means dance
festival held in the bon/obon season,
in which Japanese invite their sprits of ancestores to this world.
In the festival a variety of foods are offered
to the spirits of ancestors.
The dance is very simple. You can learn with a few minutes practice,
and it's absolutely fun.
We often seen the festival in towns and villages across the country in Japan,
on summer evening.
People wearing "Yukata" gather and join outdoor dance known
as Bon-odori in the near-by park or playground.
The origin are derived from that farmers were thankful for good harvests in days of old.
